The Synergy Tanks project transforms two disused oil tanks at Sydney's Gore Bay Terminal into a cultural space, integrating elements from the Bauhaus Triad Ballet, particularly its costume forms. This approach balances the site's industrial heritage with contemporary design, reflecting a commitment to preserving history while adapting to modern needs.
The design includes a hydraulic stage system within the tanks, drawing on Bauhaus principles of functionality and simplicity. Piston-controlled lifts allow for flexible stage setups, aligning with the project's emphasis on adaptability and utility. The venue's layout features a double helix design for efficient visitor movement, leading to a cylindrical tunnel and the main theatre area, designed to enhance the cultural experience.
The Synergy Tanks combines respect for the site's past with a practical approach to contemporary design. The project demonstrates thoughtful consideration of historical elements and modern requirements, showcasing an architectural solution that is both respectful of its context and responsive to current needs.
